Mammography Misogyny

The Taliban, those nasty hyper-conservative Muslim bad guys, when they had control of Afghanistan, they kept their women covered. They kept their women hidden.  They kept their women ignorant  They kept their women down.

The Muslims fundamentalists, as well as Hindu conservatives and others, keep their women as chattel.  If those ladies stray, they will be mutilated or beaten,  if not outright put down like dogs.  Those “foreign” religions…how uncivilized; how barbaric.

It’s a good thing we live in a Christian America, where women are respected.  This “Christian” fundamentalist country has other ways of treating their women.

The Bible belt, especially but not exclusively, has a firm cadre of righteous governors, senators, congressmen, et cetera, mostly well-to-do middle-aged white males, espousing their “Christianity”.  They want, however,  to keep women in their place.

They work hard to prevent women from being educated about sexual issues and getting contraceptives.  They work hard to prevent women’s choice on pregnancy; whether it be abortion, adoption, or raising.  Consequently, these states have some of the worst records in the country on the health of these women and their children, pre-partum, partum, and post-partum.   Is this REALLY what God wants?

Teenage pregnancy is ubiquitous.  Low birth weights are becoming the norm.  Lack of adequate health care is rampant.  The hypocrites raise a hue and cry about government takeover of health care.  Yet, it is usually these same people who use their government influence to destroy the lives of women and the children whose lives they purportedly cherish.

Now we have a new “study” that discourages mammography for women in their forties, in spite of the fact that this study shows that mammograms can and do save this same demographic.  What is their reasoning?  Because their are a lot of false positives that cause women to get hysterical.  Because, anatomically speaking, only women CAN get hysterical.  How nice that this study recommendation is  for some women to die so others won’t get hysterical.  How considerate!

How long will it be before the oxymoronic health insurance industry decides that the only Christian thing will be to dissuade these women from seeking the care they need?  By dissuade, we mean, of course, don’t cover.  They are, after all, only protecting us from the government.  WWJD?
